Keeping backyard chooks is an Australian tradition. The practice is common
the world over and has been around for as long as civilized man but it
enjoys a special place in Australian life and brings considerable joy and
satisfaction to many people, not to mention the supply of wholesome fresh
eggs.
However it is not an exercise to be entered into lightly. The birds
require regular attention, well maintained facilities, good food and general
husbandry. There needs to be a commitment to the animals if you choose to
take responsibility for their welfare.
